Letter to Membership from Commander following Hurricane Ian

- 10/12/2022

October 9, 2022

My fellow VFW Post 10097 members,

As many of us remain devastated by the effect of Hurricane Ian, we move forward as best we can. Some of us lost everything. Some of us were only somewhat inconvenienced. Whatever your circumstances may be, please be aware that we are here with some of the essentials.

Ken Corr has been doing an extraordinary job managing the '"VFW Disaster Retie?' cite located in our parking lot. While many of you donate your time to this effort, there is still much to be done. Volunteers are desperately needed to help Ken with his many challenges.

While all these things are going on outside our Post, rest assured that we are working diligently to restore the inside of our Post. As you may imagine, Hurricane Ian did not stop outside our Post. We had a seven foot tidal surge inside our Post. Of course this event destroyed alot of the contents.

We hired a crew of specialist to clean and remediate the many problems associated with flood damage. Also, we have a team which will rebuild the many parts of our Post that have been destroyed or damaged. However, this will take some time to accomplish. But we will reopen when everything is complete and we have the certification we need to assure everyone that our Post is safe for us to use again.

I will keep you updated as we go forward. We have all lost something from the effects of Ian, but we are strong together! We are starting with small steps. We will finish this journey stronger and better than before!

Sincerely

Ralph Blydenburgh

Commander
